Primary Children's hospital and Shriners were practically closed during the spring though. So we had to wait til summer before we could get an appointment. His clubbed foot had gotten stiffer and less flexible, so they decided to cast him for another two weeks to prepare him for his AFO's. He seemed a little put out about his leg being stuck in a certain position at first, but it didn't take him long before he figured out how to crawl and stand anyway!
This is Timothy waiting at Shriner's for his casting. He loved the fish tank but knew there were doctors coming, and he's decided he is scared of doctors because he FELT HIS LAST SHOTS! Poor guy, but excited parents!
At Primary Children's out physical therapist suggested we let Timothy learn to climb everywhere: up on to the counters, and table even! We started with couches, and he's only fell onto his face twice! He loves to climb up on the couch and stand against the back and stare out the window, pointing out birds and cars. What a happy little guy!
Summer was too hot for this little guy with his cast, and we couldn't take him swimming, so Evelyn bought a kiddie pool, we put a bag over his cast and let him splash. He loved it!Evelyn is the best older sister in the world! She usually watches him at least two hours a day so that I can get a little extra sleep! He sees her as his cheetah mommy: she taught him how to stalk and attack stuffed animals. Unfortunately, now he likes to bite mommy too.
Grandma Shelly came to visit with her walker, and Timothy loved it! It was fun to see him stand up to it, knowing that soon he would be getting his own walker.
Sure enough, a few days later, our kids on the move therapist brought him his very own baby walker! He was so excited to see a new toy.....
...Until I made him start using it. He wanted to push it like a car, but he has to pull it behind him. Not as cool.
Now he has his AFO braces, and they work miracles! Timothy took his very first step at 16 months! Its amazing to see because when I got my spinal, I couldn't feel my legs, and I literally could NOT move them! Even with muscle memory, it was like I didn't have legs! So I am super impressed that he can walk without feeling! I just teared up with pride. It was also super adorable how you can tell how nervous he is to try it. This was his first attempt walking with his walker:
And this is a couple weeks later when we put some snake bracelets on him and asked him to "Kick the snakes:
